Poya occurs every full moon in Sri Lanka. Once in a month - sometimes twice - sinhalese buddhists visit a temple for religious observances. Shops are closed on Poya day, and the sale of meat and alcohol is forbidden. Poya is the time of celebration, reflection and contemplation.
